Domains

I bought a domain last year on the first of January, and I forgot to renew it this year before it expired. I need to now renew that domain (javedabdullah.org), but I can’t seem to find out how to do it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your domain appears to be in the redemption period. There will be an additional $80 fee imposed by the registrar if the domain is able to be recovered. If you wish to proceed, add “modlook” to the tags of this forum thread and a staff member will be around to assist.

How long do I have to pay the $80 redemption fee? I.e when will my redemption period end?

  • From our support page:

After the grace period ends, your domain enters the redemption period, the length of which can vary. This means the domain name can still be renewed, but there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost. (This is standard practice for domain registrars.)

It’s important to note that during the redemption phase, domains can be included in expired-domain auctions, where another party can bid on your domain name. If the domain is claimed by someone else in an auction, you will not be able to renew. If you made a payment in attempt to reclaim the domain out of redemption and were unsuccessful, you will get a refund.

It is usually around 80 days or so, but as it says above, the days can vary and someone can retrieve the domain during that time. So, the best bet would be to pay the fee in order to guarantee you’ll be able to retrieve and restore the domain.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
