  If i purchase a domain name from say.. Go Daddy… can i transfer it to here or do i need to upgrade?

  You need an upgraded plan at WordPress.com if you wish to transfer or map a custom domain purchased elsewhere to a WordPress.com site. It would be cheaper to get your custom domain right here at WordPress.com as one is included free along with an upgraded plan.
