Domains

Hello, I would like to add my sub-domain to our WordPress site at Moravek.com, but I don’t appear to have a plan that allows me to do so. Please let me know how I can obtain a plan that would allow me to add sub-domains to our site. I’m assuming that we need a paid plan. If we purchase a paid plan, will we be able to access our site, even though it was developed by a third party? The sub-domain, products.moravek.com is managed by us. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites on WordPress.com. To what site are you trying to add a subdomain?

If you’re using the open source WordPress software at another host, please contact that hosting provider for their process for adding additional domains or subdomains to your site.

    Hi,
The site is Moravek.com. The subdomain is products.moravek.com. The subdomain already exists. The sites are hosted by LiquidWeb (Rackspace). We had a third party redo our site, and they used WordPress. I had previously used ExpressionWeb from Microsoft and still am for the subdomain. The reason we opted to not have the subdomain migrated at the same time was due to large differences in the static pages that would have a large amount of work and a bit costly. Now I would like to do the migration of the subdomain into WordPress, but do not seem to have access. I have admin access to the WordPress site for Moravek.com and can make changes to current content through that account (It could be the third parties account), but it seems to be lacking access to domain changes. I have contacted the third party, and they have offered their help, but we are trying to keep costs down. I don’t know if I need to obtain a business plan account of our own, so I can have more control or I just need to educate myself more (Probably a lot more). Thanks.

  • @webmasterd175d26c78 we don’t have access to sites hosted at Rackspace. And unfortunately a business plan wouldn’t help you either, as the site would still not be hosted here.

If it helps, WordPress.com is a hosting service for (some but not all) WordPress sites. We provide hosting, management, security, support, etc. We aren’t able to access individual WordPress installations at other hosts, and certainly wouldn’t be able to change your server configuration.

If I were you (and if understand your question — you’re trying to blend the old site into the one, right?), I’d do this:
    – Copy any content you want off products.moravek.com to moravek.com. It looks like you might already be done, but do double check to be sure. These steps might be somewhat applicable.

    – Ask your host / server management company / or check your cPanel / .htaccess settings (if you have those) to set up a 301 redirect from products.moravek.com to http://www.moravek.com

    Good luck!
