    Is there a way to transfer a domain for free. I am looking to get a website running primarily. Thank you for your assistance.

    Do you want to transfer a domain from another WordPress.com account to your account? or Do you want to transfer a domain you already own to WordPress.com from another registrar? or Do you want to transfer a domain from WordPress.com to another registrar?

    Hi there,

    When you transfer a domain to us, we need to pay the domain registry to gain control of the domain, and as part of the process the domain is also renewed for an additional year.

    In other words, doing costs us actual money, so it’s not something we offer for free.

    Additionally using your own domain for your WordPress.com site requires a paid plan, regardless of whether or not you transfer the domain to us completely.
