i own a domain name is it a good idea for me to use it and should i transfer it to wordpress or map it?

It’s all depends on your preference.
If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com so that you can manage your site and domain at the same place.
If you prefer to keep your domain registered with your current provider, you can use it with your WordPress.com site with domain mapping.
