Whats the difference between ‘ connect a domain’ and ‘ transfer a domain ‘. Our church has most of its web site at Go Daddy now. But Word Press is the software we use. WP is asking if I want to connect or transfer our domain. But what does that mean?

It’s more what you prefer.
Connecting allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/A transfer would allow managing both your site and domain from the same place:
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
Therefore it depends on whether or not you want to manage your domain separately from your hosting or if you want to manage both in the same place. In the end, the result is the same.
