Domains and eMail forwarding
-
I do not have a problem with the instructions on forwarding a domain to WordPress. My question has to do with the eMail portion.
My eMail is currently forwarded to a hosted provider- bluetie.com.
Will forwarding my domain to WordPress affect the forwarding of the eMail?
If it does, is there a way of having the domain forwarded to WordPress and the eMail to BlueTie? -
This is all I was able to find. I believe it will indeed interfere with the email forwarding:

Thanks for the reply.
I saw that, but it was not very clear. The mail goes to Google Apps, but the domain is directed to WordPress. Technically, this would indicate that is possible to have your mail hosted in one place and the domain forwarded elsewhere.
Except that WordPress does the mapping through changes to nameservers as opposed to straight domain forwarding. Changing the nameservers basically redirects everything to WordPress. So the eMail can be redirected using CNames on the WordPress servers, but I have not seen anything referring to that.
My guess is I cannot have both. Which is too bad.

You can ask staff directly, and it’s a summer Friday so I’d guess you have about an hour and a half left in which to do it before they take off for the weekend. Use the Support button on your dashboard.

Two possibilities:
If you map a domain (not a subdomain) such as example.com to wordpress.com you can have the MX-entries created on the wordpress.com nameservers. Your only choice here is Google Apps.
If you map a subdomain such as blog.example.com to wordpress.com you can have your MX entries pointing wherever your DNS allow.
I did the latter with my blog but I still chose Google for it’s solid and well featured.

Hi, my name is Mike and I work at your hosted email company, BlueTie. If you’re still having trouble let me know and I’ll get one of our customer support people to help you out. They would be delighted to help!

For the record: What Bluetie does here is a school book example for “customer relations done right”. No kidding.

Both the support and implementation staff at BlueTie are great. Very patient, and quite responsive.

OK- so what happens if you change to domain mapping then back? My emails no longer work and GoDaddy says I need to redirect the nameservers. Any idea how to do that? I guess I should have read everything before I switched to DOmain Mapping. I was just soooo excited!

The best option in that case is to go with Deltafoxtrott’s suggestion and Google Apps. This keeps your blog and email separate, so regardless of which blog, site, whatever your domain is pointing at, you can always access your mail anywhere else. I use it, and it works great. Correct me if I’m wrong.

That sounds good, but how do I fix the current problem of no email? I can’t switch to google apps until I can get the email fixed.
Thoughts?

You may have to contact support (use the link in your dashboard or the one at the bottom of this thread)

I actually contacted support on Monday, but haven’t heard anything yet. Any idea how long it might take? I’ve never had to contact support before – the people on the forums are so awesome!
