Domains, Old Content/Subscribers, Links

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I’ve been searching through the Support pages for a while and just get more confused with the technical language! Here’s my issue:

I currently have a title.wordpress.com blog. I want to create a new blog with just myname.com. This will be a completely different name from my blog’s current name. I want to be able to upgrade to this option without loosing the old content and subscribers that are with me on my current blog. I also want to make sure that if anyone types in the old url for my old blog, they’ll get redirected to the (theoretical) new one.
    Doable?

Is that pretty much the point of Domain Mapping and I just got lost in the technical language?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are right, the domain mapping will ensure that anyone that types in the old address will land on the new one. All your subscribers & everything else will be on the new one. I just did it about a month ago. Any posts that you had that have a URL with WordPress in the name will also now just have the new name. Make sure you do the privacy part for $8 otherwise your address and phone number will show up when someone looks at the domain name – that is the case regardless of who you would buy a domain name from.
