Will my RSS feed redirect if I add a domain?
-
I’m “building my brand” and am wondering if switching from jazzsick.wordpress.com to another domain name would affect people who currently subscribe to my jazzsick.wordpress.com RSS feed. Would they still get my new posts, or would they have to resubscribe to a new feed URL?
Blog url: http://jazzsick.wordpress.com/ -
You could purchase a Site Redirect upgrade, which would direct all traffic (including RSS feeds) to the new location: http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
Otherwise, they would have to re-subscribe.

What if I was planning on “adding a doman” via wordpress. So, I pick a new URL… do I still have to pay extra to do the site re-direct? If so, that’s a bummer… and would likely lead me to do a re-direct to outside wp.

Assuming that I’m understanding you correctly, it would be two separate upgrades.
1. Adding a domain to the new blog.
2. Redirecting the old blog to the new blog.

If (1) adding a new domain means setting up a new blog, then yes.
If there’s a way to buy a domain and have that new URL be the new “mask” of the blog. Nothing changes except for jazzsick.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/postname/ becomes http://www.somethingelse.com/2011/06/13/postname/
Is this possible? And would current RSS subscribers need to resubscribe to keep getting the new blog posts in their readers?

Ok, I thought you were setting up a second new blog, not simply adding a new domain name.
In that case, you have nothing to worry about. Registering a new domain or mapping an existing domain will simply replace the old WordPress.com portion of the URL and everything will be automatically redirected, including your RSS feed.
