Domaintransfer/Domain transfer
-
Hallo!
LG

Hello!
3 years ago I founded a blog together with a friend. One year later we decided to buy the Domain via WordPress. He bought it with his Pay Pal account, I gave him the Money. But now we aren’t friends anymore and we don’t have any contact anymore, so he decided to leave the blog, because he’s not interested in it anymore and stopped the payment for the domain. As the Domain ran out on the 10th of June I decided to buy the Domain myself – but I can’t do it for some reason. Can you help me?
Yours,
MarcoThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
I’m happy to have a look. Just to clarify, what is the domain name in question?
-
Sorry, my notification for your reply ended up in “spam” … The name of the domain is http://www.cavanisfriseur.com
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi @nr32ontheback, I’m trying to find a solution for you. Technically your old friend owns the domain. Is there any chance you could get them to contact us with permission to give it to you?
-
Hi supernovia!
Don’t really think he would reply. But as the ownership of the domain ran out, isn’t it avaiable for everyone now, so to say? -

No, not exactly. The registrar owns it now. It goes through a grace period (you’ve passed that), then a redemption period (during which the original owner can buy it back for a fee). After that they may put it up for auction. If they don’t sell it, they release it. The entire process is about 80 days. It’s in the redemption period right now.
-
So 80 days after the expiration the domain should be free?
And if I could contact the pre-owner, what would I need? The transfer code?
Thanks for your help!
-
@nr32ontheback Not so much from the original expiration date, because we extend the grace period.
You can put the domain on backorder if you’re interested in getting it as soon as possible. That usually costs more.
-
So all I can do is wait, wait, wait or contact my former colleague for the transfer code?
-
Unless you can otherwise prove ownership of the domain, yes. If you can get a paypal transaction ID from the last payment, we can use that as verification.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal-transaction-id/Let us know if you have that and we’ll contact you privately to get it.
-
I’ve contacted the owner now and he would give me the transfer code but for some reason when I click on “Domains” on my blog, there’s only the free Version now and not the reminder anymore with the “send me the transfer code”-button
-
Hi @nr32ontheback, are you able to log in as the domain owner? Only the domain owner can initiate a transfer.
