  WordPress.com is entirely free to use – we sell paid upgrades, but you don’t need those to create a site.

  WordPress.com is also safe in the sense that we’ll never reveal your personal info to others, so as long as you don’t use your real name as username, don’t use your regular email for your account (your email address is revealed to other people when you leave a comment on their sites), and don’t add any personal info to your site yourself, you’re able to blog here anonymously for the most part.

  You also have control over who can comment on your site, with the ability to block commenters, and even comments containing specific words. And you can even set your site entirely to private, and only allow people you specifically invite to have access to it.
