Yes, with a free plan you can’t use a custom domain as your primary domain.

As I can see, your domain was created yesterday (April 23). Newly registered domains cannot be transferred until they are at least 60-days old.

You purchased your domain from Namecheap. So you’ll need to log into your account there to change the NAMESERVERS. Open this link that which will teach you how to do this: https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/767/10/how-to-change-dns-for-a-domain/
When you find the NAMESERVERS, choose “Custom DNS” and fill in with WordPress.com’s name servers:ns1.wordpress.com
