Domin name registration and content promotion questions

    Hi everyone,

    Well, I have some questions on domain registration and content promotion. Here they are:

    • If I register a domain name for a blog, will all the previous “…wordpress.com” domain links be redirected to the new one?
    • The previous “…wordpress.com” links will be broken on search engines after I registered a new one, right? If yes, should I re-submit an XML sitemap again on search engines?
    • What are some other issues I can get in terms of traffics after I register a new domain name?
    • On content promotion, does WordPress.com has a kind of service to promote your posts to get more readers/views?

    Yes.

    The previous “…wordpress.com” links will be broken on search engines after I registered a new one, right? If yes, should I re-submit an XML sitemap again on search engines?

    Yes, your site will be known to search engines under your new domain.

    What are some other issues I can get in terms of traffics after I register a new domain name?

    You will see a temporary drop in search engine results as the search engines re-index your site under the new URL, but you should recover quickly.

    On content promotion, does WordPress.com has a kind of service to promote your posts to get more readers/views?

    We allow users to tag posts so that they show up under those topics in our Reader.
