    Hi there 👋,
If you already purchased your domain at GoDaddy for 5 years, the best option is to connect it to your WordPress.com site instead of transferring it.

If you transfer the domain now, WordPress.com will create a new registration for it, and you would need to pay again here.
By connecting it, you can keep using your GoDaddy registration without paying anything extra.

    Guide to connect your domain:

Feel free to ask if you need help setting it up.

    Hi there!

The answer above by @theumair07 is mostly right. But we won’t create a new registration. Instead, we’ll extend the domain registration by one year after the transfer is completed. That’s why you’ll need to pay to transfer a domain to WordPress.com.

However, you will also need a WordPress.com plan so that you can set your domain as the primary address. This requirement also applies if you connect your domain instead of transferring it.

Here’s the neat thing, though: If you upgrade to a yearly WordPress.com plan, you get a free domain registration for the first year.

This means by upgrading to a yearly WordPress.com plan, you won’t have to pay to transfer your domain from GoDaddy to WordPress.com. Even though you won’t pay for the domain transfer, we will still renew it for one year using the free domain credits from your yearly WordPress.com plan. This way, you can get a free year of domain registration.

Since you’ll need a WordPress.com plan anyway, I strongly recommend upgrading to a yearly plan and taking advantage of the free domain credits. You can check out our plans and pricing below:

Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.
