  Hi there, when you change a username, you cannot get the old one back, and no one else can use the username either. See this support page about changing a username, and in particular the second paragraph in the blue/grey box: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

  As with username changes, once you change the site address of a site here at WordPress.com, you cannot change it back and it cannot be re-registered. See the image under #6 on this support page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-site-address/. That would be the warning that would have come up when you did the site address change.
