Don't display new page on homepage

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to create a new page without that page displaying on my homepage menu with all the other pages. Specifically, right now I have a “shop” page that displays items we sell. Once on the shop page, I’d like a customer to be able to click on a link for an individual product and access a page with more information about that product. To do so, I’ve created a page for each product and linked it to the product on the shop page. However, I don’t want each “product” page to display in the menu on the homepage, nor do I want to have to include in under the shop “parent” page as a dropdown. Is this possible?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Kayla,

This is absolutely possible if you utilize our custom menu tool. Instructions here:

I did want to make sure you knew our rules and regulations when it comes to building e-commerce sites. Only sites with the Business plan can create a shopping cart:

You can certainly add a Buy Now button to non-Business sites, but you can only sell products that you’ve produced/written/devised on your own. Transactions for third-party products cannot take place. If you have other questions or concerns about this, let me know and I can give you further details.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

    Thanks, Robyn,

I guess the theme I chose doesn’t support custom menus. I will have to consider changing it. For now, I’ve just created the info pages as a blog post and linked to them from the shop page. That seems to work.

Also, just to clarify, we are not selling anything from our page at this point, just simply letting customers/followers know what we have available on our farm. That being said, should we decide to sell anything from the site, they will only be products that we’ve produced on our farm.

    Thanks,
    Kayla

    Kayla,

If you do decide to adjust your theme, here is a list that supports custom menus:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/custom-menu/

Thank you so much for letting me know about your intent on the site. That’s terrific. Should anything change in the future, just let me know and I can help explain some alternatives — I don’t want you to feel stuck if you decide to expand your site/business!

Also — those pomegranates — mouth watering! :)

I hope this helps! Take care.
