    Hello

My name is Rick Stewart and I have been hired to work on a website hosted on WordPress.com

The issue is my client has the username and password to get me into the wp-admin part of the website, but it is looking like I will need access to the wordpress.com “managed” part to update a video link in an iFrame.

The real issue is he doesn’t have the wordpress.com credentials. As far as I can determine the email address seems to belong to an Upwork contractor who we have been unable to contact. On a side not I don’y know what will happen when his cred card expires at renewal time sometime down the road.

So I am looking for advise as to how to help this guy out?

    Thanks a lot.

    Rick Stewart

    Hi Rick!

Just to clarify, when you say the site is hosted here on WordPress.com, it means that the username/password used to login into this site either using https://wordpress.com/ or using the /wp-admin dashboard will be the same.

It will be the WordPress.com username/password used to create that WordPress.com site.

There is no separate username/password for the /wp-admin dashboard.

The issue is my client has the username and password to get me into the wp-admin part of the website

You should be able to use the same username/password to login at https://wordpress.com/ and you should be able to manage this WordPress.com site.

Does this help? Feel free to get back if you have questions.

I am also tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention.

    Hi Rick,

As @strikebuys already said the username and password for the wp-admin dashboard are the same ones used to log in to WordPress.com.

If they still have access to the email connected to the WordPress.com account, they can enter that email address in the password recovery tool:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If that doesn’t work, in order to regain access to a WordPress.com account, we’ll need one of the following things:

    * A transaction ID for any upgrades purchased for the account

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transaction-id/

    * The WordPress.com account activation link, which we sent to the email address when they first registered with us. If the email they received included a confirmation button instead of a link, they can copy the activation URL by right-clicking on the button and selecting “Copy Link Address”€ (this text may slightly vary, depending on your browser).

If this doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

    Good morning strikebuys, fstat

It looks like I was on a bit of a wild goose chase. My fault too, I should have verified the information I was given before I posted here. When I did a DNS lookup it shows his website is actually on Bluehost.

Thanks for your answers though, it is good to know that on wordpress.com you can always use the wp-admin credentials to access the hosting account.

So cheers – and again thanks!

    Rick
