don’t understand functional parts of wordpress blogs

  I’m using the Contempt theme by Vault9. When I preview the theme, it appears to work as desired. When I activate that theme, it misbehaves (or else I’m doing something wrong). I have a page named What’s This Blog About that appears on a tab (across the top) in the preview. Also in the preview, the most recent post appears at the top of the left column as desired. However, when activating the theme, What’s This Blog About appears at the top no matter which tab is clicked. I must be missing something. How can I define the page What’s This Blog About to be a tab-selectable field and have my posts appear in reverse chronological order?
