Don't want posts from specific category to show on homepage

Is there any way to have posts from a specific category not show up on the homepage or in the slider?
I ask as I need to add a ‘National & International’ category to my site, but only want people to be able to see the posts if they click on the category because the main use of the site is for local news.

im also having that problem as I made a media menu but the post from the homepage keeps coming up as well as the post that is supposed to be in the media section
