I don’t want to renew my domain (einsteinwaswrong.net) when it expires in a week. Could I move it back to a free wordpress blog domain (einsteinwaswrong.wordpress.com) ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Zach,

Sure! You can do that by updating your Primary Domain. Set einsteinwaswrong.wordpress.com as the primary domain in your Store > My Domains page.

We don’t recommend letting a domain lapse if you want to keep it, for the following reasons:

    * Domain expirations don’t happen immediately. Registrars have a grace period of 30–-90 days during which they’ll hold on to the domain and give the owner a chance to renew it after it’s expired. The domain isn’t usable by anyone else during this period, and it wouldn’t be pointing to your site during this time either.

    * Once that grace period is up, there is a good chance that the domain could get purchased by someone else before you have a chance to re-register it, in the hopes that they can charge you more to get the domain back.

You can find more information concerning the expiration, mapping, and transfer of domains here:

    Domains

The best solution if you want to keep the domain is to keep it registered with us, and then use our Domain Mapping service to point the domain to anywhere you want. If you don’t want to stay with us, you can always transfer to another registrar.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
