dotcom added to domain

Years ago I started a wordpress site with my name: hollischaub.wordpress.com. I never finished it. Now I’m trying to build a free website and don’t want domain mapping until I’m finished. But it says hollischaubdotcom.wordpress.com. Why? And how can I fix it? I tried registering a new one using the correct name, but wordpress says that name is already in use. When I go to hollischaub.wordpress.com, it says the site has been deleted by the user. ???

Because you put hollischaub.com in the spot for the domain name. This is what happens when you do that. If you want a custom domain, you have to register a whatever.wordpress.com domain first, then buy a domain and mapping.
If you deleted the other blog, it’s gone forever and there’s nothing you can do about that. Just plunge ahead with teh blog you have and hook up the domain and mapping ASAP. Then the underlying URL doesn’t show at all.

The authors have deleted this site.
Is gone and can’t be used again – but you can also play around a bit with different names if you want – or you can buy a custom domain name and map it as noted above
