Downgrading back to Free Plan
-
Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade back to a free plan after using a custom domain with a Premium plan.
I would like to purchase the Premium plan, but I want to know that if, after a year, I wish to return to the free plan, this will be possible.
I realise my domain would revert back to .wordpress.com and I wouldn’t have access to the same themes etc., but I just want to check my content etc. would stay in tact should I choose to not renew after a year of WordPress Premium.
Thank you.

Hi there,
It is possible to return to the free plan but you will loose the premium features. Also if you want to retain your custom domain, you will have to pay the domain renewal charges every year. Your content will remain as it is even after you would have switched to free plan
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply. If I chose to return to the free plan, and wished to revert to .wordpress.com, is this possible e.g. reverting to not paying anything at all for the site?
Thanks again,

Hi Eleanor,
You can cancel any upgrades you buy at any time, and then you won’t be charged any more. Your content won’t be affected in any way, but if you were using a premium theme at the time your site will revert to a free theme as well, and any other premium features you have active on the site will stop working.
Also keep in mind that if you use a custom domain and then cancel it, any existing links you shared using that domain will stop working completely – we won’t be able to redirect clicks on those links to your free address as we won’t have control over the domain any more.
