we are a nonprofit. we are not sure we can pay for upgrade next year as we can now. Can we downgrade next year if money is tight?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I am not seeing any active upgrades for p2pconnections.wordpress.com. So you will not have anything to worry about downgrading from. Everything should be fine.

Thank you for your response. Yes, we have not upgraded yet. We want to wait until we know if we can downgrade next year because money may be tight next year. So, may I have a definitive answer as to: IF we upgrade now, can we downgrade next year if we need to? And if so, what will change about our site?

Depends on the upgrade what happens. What upgrade(s) were you thinking of getting?

The only one that has major side effects is domain mapping to a custom domain name – if the custom domain name is allowed to expire others might squat on the domain, hold it hostage or map it to a porn site and your visitors would go to the wrong site

If you have a custom domain name that is mapped, and it is then allowed to expire the old links to the custom domain will stop working and your visitor will have trouble finding you & search engines will send visitors to the wrong address and your search engine traffic will go to zero

  • In terms of content, nothing will happen. You won’t lose any of your posts or pages. But Auxclass’s comment regarding custom domains is a good one. There are a few other similar issues. Custom Design for example. If you had a lot of custom css that you were using and didn’t renew your Custom Design upgrade, your site would revert to how it would look without the custom CSS. But again, you would not lose any content that you have created.
