Download and import file attachments: no option

Migrating from a self-hosted WordPress blog to WordPress.com. Exported, imported, got the email that said completed. All the images are linked to the old self-hosted blog. I never saw an option to “download and import file attachments.”

In the Media library, the images show wordpress.com locations, but in the rendered web pages, they are linked to the old blog.

What’s the best way to resolve this?

OK, specifically, the guidance on http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/ as quoted below said I’d get an option to download and import file attachments. Apparently this doesn’t include images, correct?

In the new blog (on WordPress.com), go to Tools → Import → WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 2. After you upload the file, you can choose the option to Download & import file attachments if you want to move your media files.

same problem here. I never saw an option to “download and import file attachments.”

Typically after you click the “import” button on your site here, it used to give you the option of having the software import your media files. From looking at the support page though, it should now be automatic. See here at bottom: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/#importing-media-photos-videos .

I’ve tagged this thread for staff attention. Perhaps there is a bug or something.

  • The option is definitely there.

Do you only have imported posts on your blogs, and do you still have the export file and access to the original blog?

If so, I’d like to empty out your WordPress.com blogs so you can try again.

And that’s an odd thing. Within several hours, most of the file attachments were automatically migrated. A few were simply links and did not move, but the contents of the Media Library were moved…despite not seeing that choice in the interface. All good now.
