download blog posts
-
I am trying to remove old blog posts from my site so that I don’t run out of space. I don’t mind deleting these from my blog, but I want to save them to my hard drive. How can I download my content, especially photos?

Export Your Content to Another Blog or Platform
It’s your content; you can do whatever you like with it.
1. Go to Tools -> Export in your WordPress.com dashboard to download an XML file of your blog’s content. This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags.
Manual export or Guided Transfer (You probably want manual export, since it sounds like you just want to save your files.)
On the export screen you’ll get a choice between exporting your content yourself or having one of our Happiness Engineers do all the heavy lifting for you via a Guided Transfer to one of our partner hosts.
Free, self-directed exports are optimal for people who merely want to save a copy of their content or who are comfortable migrating to other hosts without assistance. Guided Transfers are a great option for people who find the migration process intimidating and would like expert help to assure an effortless transition. We charge a one-time fee of $129.00 for the Guided Transfer service.

Download your contentIt’s probably a good idea to download all your content, but there are reasons you may want to download a partial archive. In some cases, if you will be importing your content into a new site using WordPress.org, your new hosting provider may have a file size limit on uploads. If your export file is too big, you can download a set of partial archives by using the following filters:
Content published within a time frame – set a Start Date and/or an End Date
Content authored by specific users. Use the Authors drop-down menu.
Posts belonging to a specific Category or Tag.
Only posts or only pages, using the Content Types filter.
Specific posts Statuses
Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog.
If you are planning to export your content to another blog platform, it’s best to manually download and save your images from your WordPress.com Media Library to before trying to import/upload them into the new blog.

Large ExportsIf the size of an export is sufficiently large, we will process it separately and send you an email message with a download link once the export is complete. The link will contain a download of a .zip file containing multiple files. This ensures the completeness and fastest performance of the export process. Sometimes this approach will be used even for small export requests where the total size of the site being exported from is sufficiently large.
The download link will expire after several days, so you should download your export file to a local copy as soon as you receive the link.
Does that help? I think you can download it, and then upload it somewhere else, essentially. =)
