Download common theme
-
Hi,
I’m using the common theme on my blog. However, I want to change to a self-hosted website, and since there was an option to download the theme to use on a self-hosted site, I tried it, but the download isn’t working.
Can anyone help?

Hi there!
You can scroll to the bottom of the theme showcase page for the Common theme and click the “Download” button to download it to your computer. You can then install it on your self-hosted site.
By the way, did you know that you could upgrade your WordPress.com site to the WordPress.com Creator plan to have access to our advanced hosting features? That includes many benefits not available on most regular self-hosted sites (like real-time automatic backups, spam protection, SFTP and SSH, etc.). Feel free to check out the WordPress.com Creator plan and let us know if you have any questions.
You can upgrade to the Creator plan using the button below:

Hi,
Yes, I am aware there’s the download option, but it isn’t working because there’s an error message, even when I do log in, that tells me access is denied. My question is precisely how to overcome this error message.
I am also aware that there’s an advanced hosting plan, but I’m more interested in self-hosting for the time being, as the backup plugin is included with my self-hosting package, and I don’t believe it’s practical for me to pay for monthly fees, which I avoid unless I have no other choice available, even if that is a trend now. One that I don’t find suitable for myself, and since the annual fees are too expensive for the service provided, especially considering it’s a solely online-based service, I can’t justify that amount for a purely online service that makes me dependant on a third-party platform where I’m not even sure I can create subdomains and use other tools I want freely, having total control.
I am aware I pay for other services, but most of those I have use for in my day-to-day life, and again, I prefer an approachable yearly fee, such as the one I pay with self-hosting, and to not have to concern myself with the weight of that fee for an entire year, being able to be more at ease and only concern myself with that one yearly fee.
But that is my preferred method, and I’m sure for other people those plans are suitable, I’m just not one of those people. At most, I will pay a small fee monthly, but I’d always rather pay a semester or yearly fee, since I cannot justify monthly expenses that aren’t related to transportation, utilities, in-person services such as a gym membership, and such when applicable. I prefer having as little fixed monthly costs as possible, reserving those for a semester or yearly basis, and monthly for more variable costs, such as buying food, or shoes when I need them, etc.
Thank you for your reply, and I do apologise for the long answer, I wanted to make sure you understood my point of view.
As for my question, if you have an answer to the error, I would highly appreciate it, and I have to point out that the address where the theme is hosted seems to be set to private, which I’m not sure affects the availability for download, but it could.

Hi there!
Thanks for clarifying with a detailed response. I appreciate it. :)
As for the error you faced, I just checked again, and the download button seems to have worked without any issues on my end. It’s not a private link, so anyone should be able to download it. Can you take a screenshot of the error message you see and reply here with that? Here’s how to take a screenshot if you’re not sure.
When replying, you can insert the Image block to upload the screenshot.
You can also try this direct link to download the theme and check if you’re still getting the error message.
Thanks!
