Downloadable pdf on homepage?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am setting up a website for our community recycling programme. The main purpose of the site at the moment is to allow people to download our leaflet, but I can’t find a way to ‘Add Media’ to the homepage. Is it possible or do I have to make a blog post? Thanks

    Hi greenbuckstone,

I see you’ve added “Download our leaflet here” text to the homepage since opening this thread. You can link this to a PDF in the Media Library by selecting the text and using the link button on the editor:

The file URL can be found by going to My Site > Site > Media, select the file, click edit and copy the URL.

    I hope this helps.

It does help – got it now. Thank you so much Gemma. Obviously I’ve still got a long way to go with the site design but that’s the key feature that I was looking for.

Hi, I’m now having trouble embedding our Facebook page URL as a button using the Embed tool. I am getting a ‘sorry, this content could not be embedded’ error. The URL is being converted to a link which works ok. Would you be able to advise? Thanks

  • I’m not sure what you mean, “embedding our Facebook page URL as a button”

Only Facebook posts can be embedded, not entire pages. And you can’t embed anything “as a button” – embedding means the content is inserted directly into your site, exactly as it appears on the source, so it can be viewed on your site even though it’s being loaded from somewhere else.

If you want a button that links to your Facebook page, you either need to use a button image – a regular image file that looks like a button that you add via an image block – or create a button using HTML and CSS, and add your link to that.

There’s a tutorial how to create a button like that here:

A misunderstanding on my part – thanks for that. Got the button working now, but is there anyway that I can add a button that looks like the Facebook icon and links to our page, as opposed to the text button I’ve been able to add?

  • Use a Google Image search to find a picture of a Facebook icon/button, upload that to your media library, and insert that as the button instead using an image block.

    Ok – thanks very much
