    Hi there,

You can add a link to a downloadable PDF or .doc file to your sidebar using the Custom HTML Widget.

First you need to upload the PDF or .doc file to the media section of your site. You can do this by navigating to: My Sites → Media → Add New

After uploading the file, locate it in the Media Library (My Sites → Media), click it and then click the Edit button that appears. On the Edit screen copy its link from the URL box.

Next open the Widgets tab of the Customizer: My Sites → Customize → Widgets

Click Add Widget and locate the Custom HTML Widget to add it to your sidebar. You now need to type or paste the following code into the content area of the widget:

    <a href="">File Name</a>

Paste the link to your file into the double quotes and replace “File Name” with its title. After you publish the changes, the file will appear as a download link in the sidebar.

You can find out options about uploading and sharing documents on your WordPress.com site here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/

Please let me know if you require any further assistance with this process. I understand there are quite a few steps involved and would be happy to help.
