Downloading media library

  Hi!

  I found an easy way to download my complete media library from my wordpress.com blog. Since this topic is regularly asked here (but all these topics are closed), I want to share how I did it. Everyone trying to do this (for back-up on hard drive, not for migrating to another WordPress-Site), will notice, that wordpress.com does not offer this function. But a little work-around helps:

  1. Export XML-file of media library
  2. Convert XML to HTML (simply using Text Editor or so)
  3. Install DownThemAll-Plugin (http://www.downthemall.net/) – I did it with Firefox, but it should work fine with Chrome, too (Restart Firefox and activate Plugin)
  4. Open the HTML-File you created with Firefox. With Rightclick you open Downthemall.
  5. Select the files you want (jpg, pdf, png,…)
  6. I had a minor issue with duplicates: I simply chosed to overwrite them, which worked fine.
  7. That’s it!
