Downloading my wordpress.com website for use third party offline

    If i build a site in wordpress.com, will it be possible to download the entire site, including all formatting using a tool like HTTrack so that I can then distribute the site to clients. I want my clients to then use it in their device browser offline, just as they would the website if they had network access. This isnt possible with wix and some other applications. Is that the case for wordpress.com

    Hi there,

    It’s not possible to download a WordPress.com site and install it on another server. We’re what’s referred to as a managed host, and use a modified version of the open source WordPress software that only works on our specific hosting setup, so even if you could download all the files, it wouldn’t work to run as a stand-alone site on another server.

    WordPress.com is also a web-based service, and the only way to interact with a WordPress.com site offline, is via the WordPress mobile apps, where you’d need to be logged into a WordPress.com account that has the necessary permissions on the site.

    From your description it sounds like you actually want the local-hosted version of WordPress. The open source WordPress software made on WordPress.org can be installed directly on a computer using special software like Local by Flywheel or MAMP, which then creates a virtual server on the computer allowing the site to be accessed in a browser without the need for an internet connection. (You’ll still need an internet connection to connect with other services via API, though, for example, when installing plugins or themes from the WordPress.org directories from within the dashboard.)
