  Can I download photos from a blog I help write?

  Are they you own images? If not then do you have the permission of the copyright holder to use them?

  Our small nature school probably owns the copyright. I’m an author on the site and take some of the photos and use them in my posts. I just don’t upload them to the site, another teacher does, so they’re not on my hard drive. I wanted to use some to make a card to give to one of the teachers. Thanks for your help.

  If the images are yours, and it sounds like they are not, ask the teacher who created and uploaded the original images if you can get a copy of the image directly from them.

  We’re not trying to be unhelpful, we’re just trying to protect the rights of the original copyright holder.

  Ok, thanks. I took some of the photos but, as I said, did not upload any. My co-teacher did. However, I was trying to make her a thank you card and wanted to make it a secret. I’ll work around it. Thanks for your help. I can understand the concerns here.

  Is the thank you card a gift of several cards to the person that took the picture and the thank you card has the image on it taken by the person receiving the cards?

  If so I don’t see a problem at all – you are giving the image to the person that owns the copyright – only a nut case would sue you over that –

  Or if you are giving a montage of pictures to a person of their own pictures – yes there is probably something about that – but you would be giving the person again something that they own the copyright for – most people would be delighted I think to get a gift like that

  PS – I am not a legal anything – but the law of common sense seems to me to apply in this case

  Since it’s an organizational blog, it’s a good idea for the organization to make a policy about this earlier rather than later.
