Downloading the whole site

    Hello

    I have made the site above as a school project necessary as part of the high school graduation exam. The school needs to keep the site offline until the end of the school year (August 2022) and be able to access it whenever they want, from the school computers.
    I have an issue saving my website on my computer; I save from the home page and a .html file is downloaded. Whenever I open that .html file, I access offline the home page but whenever I click on any other page, it goes online. I have also tried exporting the site with all the media and links, but it doesn’t look the same (possibly because the theme files are not included as they are WordPress-made).
    Do you have any idea what I can do in order to make the website available this way?

    Hi Carla! Great question. When you download the HTML for a site, it’s just going to download exactly the code that you see in the browser — including links to other pages, etc. It will likely not work or even look like the same site, because it will still be referencing things that exist on the web. And of course any tools like wp-admin or the editor, or even the commenting system, wouldn’t be available. Plus, if the HTML existed on just one computer there, staff would likely have trouble accessing that anyway.

    One option is to have ask IT department there to set up an intranet server and install WordPress on that, then copy your site to that instance. It’d be quite a bit of work, and not something we can support, as we provide support for our managed hosting services rather than the free code.

    On the other hand: would it work to make the site private instead, and just allow access to just a few accounts? That way the site will stay online, just not public. Would that work for you?
