downloading vs. activating a new theme

    I have a blog and if I remember correctly I activated a theme and it worked from there. I also own another domain name and want to start another blog without interfering with the first one. However instead of saying activate, theme twenty sixteen says download. I clicked on download but I have no idea what to do with all of the “coded?” pages it sent me. How can I just activate the theme and make my blog on it? I am lost. Also, If I do learn how to activate it or use the download, how do I make sure it attaches to my other domain name instead of creating something with my old domain name? I hope that makes sense, I am so new I don’t know how to ask the right questions. I need help!
