Downloads of Media Files
-
Hi
Stats of 24 Mar 2022 show a download of media files on my blog.
Is it possible to know who downloaded those media files? Who can access my media files other than myself?
Is it possible to know which of my blog posts was linked to a specific media file?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Your WordPress.com site is set to public, which means every file in the media library is also public and can be viewed by anyone on the internet as long as they have a link to the file.
Someone can get those links by visiting a post where you’ve added that media file. Media files on a public site are also indexed by search engines, so someone can find a file on your site via a Google Search as well.
Is it possible to know which of my blog posts was linked to a specific media file?
If you view the media library in WP-Admin in list view (https://ashwanisarda.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?mode=list), you’ll see an “uploaded to ” column. Depending on how the file was added to the post, it might have been attached in the database itself, in which case it will show there.
But if a file shows as Unattached, it means it’s not linked to a post in the database. In that case the only way to find which post the file has been used in, is to check all the posts you have published.
Also keep in mind that a file can only be attached to one post, but it could potentially be re-used in several posts. Again the only way to see this is to check the posts themselves.
Let me know if you have any other questions about this.

No, we don’t keep stats that specific.
As your site is fully public, it could be anyone.
