Downscaled PNG images lack compression
-
I have a PNG image that gets downscaled (correctly) to fit the width of my theme, but the resulting file size is much larger than the original image:
Downscaled version 480×360 – 675k: http://justfiveminutes.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/2009-01-22_reflections_patterns.png?w=480&h=360
Original version 1600×1200 – 150k:

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you edit your image to turn it into a gif optimized for the web, this won’t happen, and it will load fast. I did that to your image, and the resultant ?w=460 version was a mere 23.3 KB.
