Dozens of Messages Apparently from Word Press on Account Creation
-
I woke up this morning and checked my email to find dozens of messages apparently from Word Press congratulating me on creating accounts. I am not sure if they actually are from Word Press.
The messages are on random subject and in a variety of languages. They all have the same format. The return address is WordPress@… and then the name of a web site for example autismsoutheast.co.uk. When I cut and paste the URL at the end of the return address I get real web sites.
The message gives me a newly created username and then a link to reset the password. I have not followed any of these links. I logged into my own Word Press account and my dashboard does not show dozens of sites created here. I changed my password.
These messages continue to come and fill my email box. I think a bot of some sort must be creating accounts for real web sites using my email address. How can I stop this? The volume of these messages is huge.
