DRAFT DISAPPEARED
-
I have been working on a post for days. It was saved in draft form. It has disappeared. Has anyone encountered this???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you cannot locate a post revision and it’s not in your Trash then it’s gone.
If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)
But if the post was created here http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ there is no means of recovery as the auto-save is not functioning there.
Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
The auto-save works there and the post will be Standard post format unless you change it.Do not create posts here > http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ where the auto-save is not working and where you are creating an Aside post format.
Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/
-
Thanks, I did that and always do this: Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
The auto-save works there and the post will be Standard post format unless you change it.The auto-save feature doesn’t appear to be working and just in general many quirks are going on.
Does anyone know why we can’t contact support directly anymore? Also why can’t we access CSS? I subscribe to that additional feature. Can anyone tell me why I can’t contact WP directly anymore?
-
I don’t know why you cannot contact Staff using this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ but it does take longer than posting here does.
Also why can’t we access CSS?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/how-to-find-your-themes-css/
I don’t have an answer for that either but I suspect you may have a browser related issue or a connectivity issue.1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. Try using another browser.
5. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -
I am actually quite tired of these ongoing problems with revisions simply not “sticking” –
Going to the revisions I can see the last one, but the click-able button “restore this revision” simply won’t work. The only way to retrieve the latest version is to do a painful cut and paste (usually paragraph by paragraph) and place in the current (outdated) revision as text, save it again and hope it will stick
This problem has been going on and off for at least six months, probably more (I posted the first time it happened to me)
It is pretty frustrating…. I hope the staff is trying to work on this
-
It is. And I pay for the CSS feature and it’s not working and I can’t find it. I’m tired of it as well, Sally!

I am trying to respond to Time Thief. I am using one of the browse happy browser. I don’t have any connectivity issues. Where is the tab to contact WP directly? Can anyone tell me??
-
@sallybr
Just to be clear about this I have multiple blogs and no such issues. Today I’m on an old PC running IE8 and Firefox 25 and I’m rocking right along. This may be hard to accept but in fact over 90% of the time when bloggers claim WordPress.com has an issue in fact they do. Please work through what I posted above because this is most likely to be a browser related or connectivity related issue. -
Can you please tell me how to contact WP directly. When I go to the support page and type in my question, it does not offer me an option to email anyone at WP. It ONLY gives me an option to “ask the community.” I pay extra for these features. They aren’t working and I’d like to receive an answer, if at all possible, from a WP “happiness engineer.”

@brigitte622
Are you logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog you have issues with?I am using one of the browse happy browser.
Exactly which one are you using?
I don’t have any connectivity issues.
Wow! I’m amazed to here you did a trace route.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/advanced-browser-troubleshooting/
Please do post that information here.Where is the tab to contact WP directly? Can anyone tell me??
I posted the link above http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
-
here = hear
I was so excited to find that you took the initiative to eliminate connectivity issues that I made a spelling error.I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance and when they arrive here you will have posted all your reports on what I asked you to do above. Then they will they have something to work with. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
-
@sallybr
Please read the thread from the last time you had this issue as you had browser addons that caused it this could be the case again. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/revisions-disappeared-from-my-dashboard?replies=17#post-1371874 -
If course I’m logged in…if you’d rather not help, that’s okay. There’s no need to be amazed at anything, as you stated above. I think you meant you’re amazed to HEAR, but it’s okay, Time Thief.
And again, I go to that link and it only gives me the option to ask the community. I’m very happy that things are going great for you and your blogs. Not everyone experiences that. I simply want to contact one of WP’s happiness engineers.
Is there anyone that can help me with this?
-
There was once an option to contact WP directly and keep these requests private, which I prefer. They are very respectful when they reply.
Again, Sally or anyone else that can reply to me with that respect and not in a sarcastic nature, I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you!
-
If course I’m logged in…
You missed what I meant. I wanted to be sure you were logged in as Admin because some bloggers actually have both Admin roles under one email and Author status as a second user on the same blog. I also want to be sure you are logged in under the exact same account that purchased the CSS uporade for the blog in question.
As I said above this thread is tagged for Staff. Staff work their way through threads tagged for their attention by dealing with those that have the earliest date and timestamps first, then moving forward to deal with those that have the most recent date and time stamps. Please be patient while waiting for us to assist the bloggers who posted before you did.
-
Great. Thanks. Perhaps if you’d be a bit more patient instead of using sarcasm, people might better understand you. But so appreciate your taking the time to respond. I am logged in under the exact same account that purchased the CSS upgrade for the blog in question.
And I read what you said above. Thank you.
So this is the process now — yes or no? There is no direct way to contact Happiness Engineers initially? One must go through the forums and threads before it’s addressed? Is that correct?
Thank you.
-
I haven’t used any sarcasm here at all. I’m still patiently waiting for you work through what I posted above here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/draft-disappeared-1?replies=17#post-1517297 so Staff have something to work with when they get to this thread.
-
I am trying to get through your steps. Not all of them are working. Your replying, “Wow! I’m amazed to here (sic) you did a trace route.” And then “I was so excited to find that you took the initiative to eliminate connectivity issues that I made a spelling error.”
Or perhaps I am misunderstanding. If so, my apologies. When I pay for features, I would like for them to work. They are not working.
That’s okay. Thank you for your help. I’ll wait to hear from WP. What I do not understand is why I can’t have an answer to a simple question, which again is this:
Is there a direct way to contact Happiness Engineers initially? Yes or no? Does one have to go through these forum threads before going directly to WP?
Thank you for your help. And I’ll be patient.
-
Hi, timethief! This time it’s not the add-ons, I tried doing that and still have the problem. The strange thing is that it doesn’t happen all the time, it happens a few days in a row then it “calms down” ;-)
pretty odd.
I am wondering if blogging from two different computers could be causing it? One is a MacBookPro and the other a PC. It just occurred to me now that it could be generating some of these issues…
what do you think?
