Draft in improved editor gets stuck in 'Saving…' mode

I have been writing my posts directly from the improved editor for quite some time now with no issues until this weekend when I noticed after writing for a while that the auto save was no longer working. Instead, the ‘Save’ button was frozen while ‘Saving…’ It also meant that I could not ‘Preview’ what I had written because the post could not load while saving.
I accidentally closed my browser (Safari) ‘assuming’ the auto save had been working in the background only to reload the draft post to find that almost all that I had been composing was not saved. This has never happened before.
To my knowledge I have not changed any settings that should cause this to happen. I restarted my Apple and the first time I loaded 1 of my 10 drafts that I have been working on it saved with no issue. But as soon I I make a second edit, it gets stuck ‘Saving…’ and I have no choice but to close the post. This is still happening.
I thought perhaps it was just the one post on the weekend had become corrupted for some reason. But it appears that it is happening now with all my drafts. What could be causing this? I opened the draft in the older editor by going through ‘WP Admin’ and have been able to save and preview drafts with no problem. Is there a bug in the newer editor that causes the Save (auto save) to glitch? This is frustrating. I would rather not have to compose in Word and then cut and paste into the WordPress editor because I enjoy checking the Preview mode to see how my post flows. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem, since december (can’t remember the date). The old editor works just fine, but as soon as the improved editor attempts to autosave a draft, it gets stuck and nothing is saved.

My issues were happening while I was in Safari even though I had always been using that browser. I elected to just use Chrome with the new editor. So far so good. Not sure if that will help you as well.
