Draft Page Not Displaying

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m new to wordpress and am seeing alot of functionality that doesn’t make sense. First of all, why would anyone publish a site that is not ready for consumption? WordPress appears to be designed that way (ie I just started, haven’t published, but THIS forum interface defaults to “site you need help with”).

    In this post

    https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/20270/is-it-possible-to-link-to-draft-pages

Users seem to say this is the way the Development environment is designed. Is that right?

When I link a draft page and then try to test it, i get “url not found”.

    Goofy way to design software.

    Thoughts?

  • Hi there!

The StackExchange link you shared is almost 12 years old, and refers to the WordPress software, not WordPress.com, if you’re looking for more resources on how to create a site on our platform, I recommend checking this site instead:

Here, on WordPress.com, any newly created site will be in the Coming Soon mode, until the owner is ready to launch it:

    WP

Your site’s Privacy settings control who can view your site, allowing you to make the site public, private, or “Coming Soon”. This guide explains each setting you can use on your site. Visit Settings Launch Your Site Launching your site means you are ready to share it with the world. To launch your site, go to Settings → General and click the Launch site button. If you do not see this

You don’t need to publish the site to get support here, but for most of the questions, the staff needs to know the URL of the site, to be able to help you out.

When I link a draft page and then try to test it, i get “url not found”.

What are you trying to test exactly? If you’d like to check a preview of your posts or pages, before publishing, you can click on the button Preview in the post editor. Only site admins will be able to load the link to such preview.

Were you trying to do something else? Let us know, we’ll be happy to clarify further.
