Drafts: How Do I Bulk Delete Them?

  • Unknown's avatar

Support, I’m one of those folks who have hundreds of drafts saved. Is there any way I can bulk delete them? I’d like to get rid of, say 400 of them, but I don’t want to delete them one at a time.

    What do you suggest? -noip

    Manage > Posts

choose “Drafts” from the Post Type.. dropown. use the delete button on the far right.

There’s no way to delete them all in one bunch but hitting those delete links is probably the closest thing.

You obviously don’t understand my question. Thx anyway.

Safe to say what I would like to do is not doable with WordPress.

    Thanks Mike.

This is obviously a function WordPress should add.

Just for reference, statements like that without any backing up go over rather poorly around here in the forums.

Why? I can see all sorts of problems with it actually. False deletions would be the big one. We get folks here who delete posts and even entire blogs by ‘accident’ and then want them back. I bet a buck that Mark gets a dozen of these a day. Strain on the server as well from doing multiple tasks at once.

You’ll note we also don’t have the ability to tag multiple posts with new categories or even remove them. We used to have that feature way back when with a very early version of regular wordpress. You’ll note that that feature is no longer and there isn’t even a plugin that will do it.

If you feel strongly about something, feel free to submit a feedback but please don’t assume that a feature that you want is best for everybody

??? that’s an odd response, especially for a moderator. WordPress has several useful functions that aren’t “best for everybody”.

From numerous conversations I’ve had with other boggers (WordPress and others), the ability to bulk delete DRAFT posts would be quite useful. And not just for me.

Regardless, thanks for the response. I doubt that I (or anyone else in my situation) would expend the time and energy necessary to delete over 700 drafts, 1 by 1.

Wrong there. One woman today deleted over 800, one by one.

Deleting posts, comments and pages is a one way process.
It is as permanent as it gets.
Mass deletion is a loaded gun.

    Example:
    – Click Options
    – Click Delete Blog
    – Tick a box
    – Click the button
    – Wait for email
    – Click link in email
    – then send email to me saying “I accidentally deleted my BLOG!!!!!!!!!!”

    I get those.

I don’t want posts to be lost.
If a complete blog needs resetting to as it was on creation I can do that. But otherwise I can’t.

Not really. Some moderators see the entire picture and both sides of an issue. Sorry that you’re unable to. As Mark says, it would cause more issues then it would solve.

And, yes, I remember that lady and I’ve done it for others here myself. Including myself.

    Hello,
Wordpress.org software is different from wordpress MU software. We run on wp MU. We do not have plugins and by posting the link above you could cause a lot of confusion.
