dragging and dropping images in a gallery

    Hi-
    I am trying to reorder some images on one of my pages. I used to be able to just drag and drop them into the proper order but now when I go into ‘edit gallery’ and try to drag the image from last in the gallery to first, it does not move at all. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

    Hi there,

    This is a bug, and it’s with the WordPress software itself.

    It looks like this has been fixed over on WordPress.org’s side, and the fix should be included in the next update of that software. Once it’s updated in WordPress, we’ll also be able to update it here on WordPress.com, though it doesn’t look like a date for the next update has been set yet.

    In the meantime, please click on your gallery and click the Pencil button to edit it. Then you can use the media library selection screen to reorder your images – images in your gallery are numbered there based on the order you selected them in, so just reselect in a different order to change their ordering in the gallery itself.

    We’ll update this thread once the fix is available here on WordPress.com.

    Hi there,

    WordPress 5.9.1 was released on WordPress.org yesterday containing the fix for this issue. All WordPress.com sites have already been updated with this new version, so reordering images in galleries should work again, but please let us know if you still have any issues with this.
