Dredded maintenance mode!

  Just updated my plugins and yes dreaded maintenance mode however not quite!
  First message site was down: The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
  Site is http://www.discoverytravel.com.au

  After not finding the maitenance folder in FTP renamed the plugins fold and site message changes to: The site is experiencing technical difficulties.

  If I do not have .maintenance in my public html folder what else could it be?

  If I changed the folder name of each plug in would that disable the said plug in making the site live again?

  Anything else you can think of? I am not that IT savvy sorry to say!
