Drop Down for Viewer's Contact Info

  How do I add a drop down when people first enter the site. For example before viewing the posts I would like a drop down asking for name, email, phone, and criteria. Is this possible?

  Hi there. This is not possible on WordPress.com, and thank goodness for that. I know you have your reasons for wanting to do this, and others will differ from me, but nothing makes me leave a website so quickly as an intrusive pop-up demanding I sign up or give away personal information before I’ve even had a chance to read the content. Make sure your content is good enough and people will sign up for your blog without you having to shove the subscription down their throats.

  Also keep in mind that more and more countries have very strict laws governing the collection, storage and use of personal contact info like you want to do. If Google, who is governed by US law, lost a court case against the EU regarding the collection of user data from EU citizens, what do you think your chances are if you don’t comply to those laws? The risk to you is really so big, and the laws so complex, that I don’t think it’s worth it.

  But if you’re still dead set on going ahead with a pop-up like this, it’s only possible if you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site. You can see here for more information on setting up a site there: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
