  How to create a drop down menu for the different categories in my blog?

  You can create drop down menu using the custom menu. Here is the support document for your help: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/. To do this, you have to user customizer. Here is the support document for the same: https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/.

  Also, you can use categories as the menu item. Just follow the instructions given the support documentation of the custom menus and instead of choosing pages, you may choose categories created by you. Here is the support document that will help you understand category pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/.
