Drop-down menus don't always work

The drop-down menus to access sections on our blog at http://thebishopsnewquay.wordpress.com/ (Enterprise theme) used to work fine (as I remember it) but recently users have been complaining that they can’t, for example, select items on the “Parents” one because the menu immediately pops down again before an item can be clicked. Similar issues on the “Blogs” menu. I find it to be intermittent on my machine, from both Chrome (16.0.912.77) and IE (9.0.8112.16421) on Win7 Home Premium x64 so I can’t imagine it’s a browser issue (most other users are probably running IE8 on WinXP). Moving the mouse pointer in circles around the item eventually seems to keep the sub-menu up, but I don’t fancy recommending this as a workaround… What’s changed???

I tried some randomly and they all worked for me. I’m using Firefox 9.0.1 and IE8 and running Widows XP.

Do I need to supply a video? :) Playing with it some more to see if I can narrow it down I’ve found that if I hover over (say) the “Parents” menu item then quite slowly move the mouse down then it invariably pops the menu down just before I get to the first item. Moving the mouse much more deliberately quickly seems to avoid this, but this is not a natural movement at all, and it definitely has changed. Could it be vertical item spacing?

I’m not doubting what you are experiencing. I’m not experiencing the same thing. Would you like to contact Staff directly for assistance with this issue?

Aha! Investigating the metrics with Chrome and then changing the menu UL position to be a little higher up made it work again. Issue then traced to the body “line-height” that we’d set in the custom CSS to attempt to fix poor spacing in blog posts. Will need to find a better way to do that then.

    Thanks!

Aha! You have uncovered the source of the issue. Good for you. :) I can’t help with the CSS editing aspect. Would you like to have this thread moved into the CSS Forum where you can get help with it?

I can’t find the specific post/page that provoked us to investigate a “line-height” change, so I’m happy to remove this adjustment, happy in the knowledge that the menus now work again!

Thanks for returning to let us know that this issue has been resolved. Best wishes with your blog. :)
