Could someone please advise how to add multi-level menus. I have tried and currently have them showing in a hierarchy but when I preview all the lower level items appear in one list under the primary pages. This will not work with material I want to display. Currently I am trying to build a free site but am happy to pay a subscription when I know the menu system will work. This is not a commercial site, it is just for history documents.
    thanks

    Hi @viviennecaldwell,

Could you please tell us the address of the site you need help with?
Also what theme do you use? Menu items display may depend on theme.
Have you followed this guide, right https://wordpress.com/support/menus/#reorder-menu-items ?

Once we know that we can point you in the right direction for support.

    Hi maksimurasov

I haven’t launched the site yet because I can’t get the menus right and I haven’t got enough content loaded. I am using Balasana at the moment but have tried about six free themes all with the same result. I followed the guide that you suggested.

Does it make a difference when the site is launched? Are there free themes that support multi-level menus?

    Hi again,

Are there free themes that support multi-level menus?

Could you please try Canard theme? It is free and shows multilevel menu for me. But maximum 3 levels deep:( There must be more of such themes, but I still can not figure out how to search for them quickly…

Does it make a difference when the site is launched?

    No, there is no difference.

Anyway, we look forward to hearing from you.

Have found another good one, Pique theme. It is also free, it supports huge amount of submenus. I have tried 6 levels, it shows them all but there is not enough screen space to show them all:

    Hope that helps.

    Hi

I tried Canard and it worked! to three levels as you said, I would like more but I can definitely work with that. Thank you so much.

I had tried about five other website builders that all did the menus beautifully but adding content was a nightmare. I will just stick with Canard for now and get my content in so I can launch the site.

    Kind regards
    Vivienne

    Hi again

That is even better and the fonts are more what suit the style of my content. Thank you so much for finding that. I will try that first thing in the morning (being past my bedtime now)

I can’t believe how helpful you have been in such a short time.

Glad to hear that it helped!
I hope you enjoy building a website on WordPress.com :)
P.S. I have found those themes in Themes directory by entering such text in search field:feature:multiple-menus (or press Feature and type menu, choose multiple-menus).

If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
