Dropdown list in WP.com?
-
Hi all. Our blog is ctkpalmcoast.wordpress.com.
I would like to create a dropdown menu or list within a post. I’m not talking about on the side with the categories and such. I’m not talking about the main menus. I want a dropdown in the post.
For example, I would like to consolidate a whole mess of links into one easy dropdown which can be used to choose one.
However, it would appear that wp.com does not allow for such html. Is that correct? Any work arounds? Any better ideas for displaying dozens of links in an organized fashion (eg., our Search for Answers page which grows daily with links).
Thanks

The blog linked to your username does not appear to be a wordpress.com blog. Please read this entry (link below) as it’s possible that you have posted to the wrong support forum > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Is it is a wordpress.com blog then you have removed the footer information and links that Staff have requested we leave intact, so other know they can also get a free wordpress.com blog. If that blog isn’t the blog you are seeking help with then please post the URL for the blog in question.

I’m so sorry I overlooked that in your first sentence as it was not an active link and I’m visully challenged. I apologize. We are limited as to what we can do with code on wordpress.com blogs. We cannot edit the templates underlying our blog themes and I do not believe what you propose can be done on either a Post as you want or a Page.

There are themes that do have drop down menus for the display of sub-pages under Parent Pages in the horizontal menu. These themes also provide an option for displaying Categoriesand sub-categories where static Pages and sub-pages are usually displayed. The themes with this feature are Inove, Monochrome and Sandbox 1.6.1 Perhaps one of these could be used to accomplish what you want.

Sometimes this lack of code ability is just disappointing!
I find wp.com so much easier and faster, but I just wish a few of these little html tricks could be used!!

We are all blogging on a wpMU blogging platform. That, in essence, means that all those using the same theme are using the same underlying template. If you could hack the template to create a drop-down then the result would be that everyone with the same theme would witness the same changes made to their blogs.
I think that the INove, Monochrome or Sandbox 1.6.1 themes may be worth trying. If not then you can hire a web host and get a free software download for self hosting from wordpress.org.
