Dropdown menus from subcategories?
-
I wondered if it is at all possible to create drop down menus that show the subcategories. Right now I’ve just got menu buttons of the categories. I am using the Twenty Ten template.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Right, but I want them in the top menu (the black bar), not in the side menu. Any thoughts?

It sounds like what you want to do is create a custom menu and displat categories in the top navigation bar where pages tabs usually appear. Staff have provided this support documentation entry for those who want to structure their blog like a website. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
What’s critical is to understand when creating a website structure is the following:
1. The differences between pages and posts
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/2. The impact of choosing to restruture a blog to become page based
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/12/better-blogging-at-wordpress-com-pages-and-posts/3. We organize our posts by use of categories. There is only one dynamic page in a blog and we cannot post to more that one page. However, we can create the appearance that we have done that by setting up a custom menu and displaying Categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation menu. Thank you for the explaination! I guess what I want is a mix of styles. I want to structure my posts as on a website.
I already created a custom menu that shows the categories.I allready knew it’s possible to create a drop down menu using pages (http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/), but what I want to know is whether it can also show subcategories?
I don’t think I want to go with pages. It’s going to be a cooking blog, and I want to organize the many recepies that are going to be on there. If I use pages instead of blogs I can only have one per page. Or I have to put them on the same page. Don’t wanna do that either bc then I won’t be able to find everything back with the search engine.
Maybe I’m too demanding :) thanks loads!

Yes. You can create Categories and subcategories and establish a hierarchy. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

I’m sorry I was busy elsewhere. But I’m glad to hear you resolved this. Best wishes with your blog. :)

@floortjahh:
“No one knows? Or is it not possible?”
But timethief had already given the answer in her Feb 9, 2011, 8:53 PM post above (point 3) – including the link to the Support doc that explains how to do it. -
