Dropping sidebar
-
For some reason, my sidebar on the home page dropped to the bottom. But it appears in the right location if I click on each individual post.
I searched the archives trying to find a solution and the only answers were open html tags and too large of images. I have shrunk all of the images and that hasn’t helped. The text goes beyond the images anyway. And I do not know how to search for open html tags.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you.

Can you give us a link to your wordpress.com blog? We can’t help if we can’t see your blog, and the site linked to your username is not a wordpress.com blog.

I am sorry. I thought it would automatically leave one. It is http://www.festalcelebrations.wordpress.com

What are you using to write your posts, or where are you copying and pasting from? There are lots of “div” tags which according to W3C validation are not allowed where you have used them.

It is a mixture. Some things are copied from other sites. Some did come from MSWord documents. Are you able to find which posts specifically are causing a problem? Then I could try to clean up the html for them. I am not an expert at this at all, but if my search can be narrowed down, then maybe I could find the problem.
Thank you.

By the way, you can link your username to your blog here in the forums by going to “view your profile” at the top of the page and putting your blog URL into the website field and then clicking “update profile.

MS word will cause you problems as it creates really bizarre code that will cause you problems ( http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/ ). Copying from the web can (most likely will) bring in code that will cause issues as well.
What you need to do is set your blog to display only one post per page (options > reading) and then go through your posts one at a time to see which is causing the issues. It may be more than one. The validator is showing two open div tags and two open paragraph tags. It is also showing a lot of div elements in places that they are not allowed. You can report back here with the titles of the posts that are causing problems and I can help you with fixing them.
When pasting from the web, always use the “paste as plain text” icon on the extended tool bar and when pasting from word, use the “paste from word” icon so that the code can be cleaned up.

Thank you so much! The problem was in the very first post. I fixed it and now the front page looks fine.
I really appreciate your prompt help!
