DSL Modem Webhosting to WordPress
-
small company has been hosting websites for individuals since the early 90s, back when individuals could by blocks of static IPS from an ISP and do it yourself. Our ISP has decided not to honor our static IP blocks anymore, and now our longtime customers are without their sites. Is WordPress an alternative where we can host our client’s sites?
How difficult would the migration be from static IP sites to wordpress sites? -
Hey there, we’d be happy to help! WordPress.com can be a great option because we intend to be around for a very long time, and we take care of security, support, and maintenance beyond just regular hosting. Are the sites built on WordPress already or do they use HTML, etc?
Regarding the IP addresses: are they using IP addresses instead of domain names? Please send links to a few sites, if possible, so we can recommend options.

The sites were coded from scratch so I believe in a scripting language like MTL and C. The way were were doing it was with a block of static IPs with our ISP, the DSL router we had acted as a gateway to pull the IPs in and allow our web machine (which acted as a server) to attach the sites to the IPs. Sorry to sound extra complicated, I just want to ensure we can find a suitable replacement for this process.
The sites are completely down without the static IPs they were attached to. ex: http://www.rollcallvotes.com -

If they’re straight HTML sites, you would need to do a lot of configuration and work to migrate the content from those static pages to the WordPress CMS (content management system). This would be true if you hosted your site here at WordPress.com or any other hosting provider that WordPress can be installed.
Here’s a support document that will help you get started there: https://wordpress.com/support/import/converting-an-html-site-to-wordpress/
Note that each domain/site you want to bring to WordPress.com would need its own paid plan to use the domain as the primary. Otherwise, the site would redirect to the free
*.wordpress.comURL.Let us know if you have any other questions!
